Ingredients
4thick slices Italian bread
1/2cuppizza sauce
4ouncesfresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
4ouncespepperoni slices
Fresh basil leaves
Olive oil spray
Instructions
Preheat panini maker.
Spread pizza sauce evenly over each slice of bread.
Layer the bottom slices of bread with mozzarella slices, pepperoni slices, and fresh basil leaves. Finish with top slices of bread.
Spray the outsides of the sandwich with olive oil spray.
Place sandwich on the preheated press. Grill for 3-4 minutes per side, until the bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
Remove from heat, allow to cool for 1 minute. Slice and serve with additional pizza sauce for dipping, if desired.
Notes
No panini maker? No problem! Grill the sandwich in a skillet, laying another heavy skillet on top of the sandwich to press it together. Or try a bacon press if you have one of those.
