Swedish Apple Pie

This Swedish Apple Pie is unique because it doesn’t have a traditional pie shell. Instead, it features tart apples, sweet cinnamon flavor, and cakey crumb mixture. It is the easiest pie you’ll ever make!

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small mixing bowl
  • 9-inch pie plate

Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 medium granny smith apples, cored, peeled and chopped (about 2 ½ cups)
  • ¾ cup chopped pecans
  • For severing: powdered sugar and cool whip

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F. Spray 9-inch pie plate with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flours, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in apples and pecans.
  • Transfer to prepared pie plate. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until apples are tender and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
  • Cut into 8 triangles and serve warm with a dollop of cool whip.

Notes

Chopped walnuts can also be used in this recipe!
