Ingredients

  • 3 cups complete buttermilk waffle & pancake mix
  • 2 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 8 oz tub whipped topping
  • 3 medium bananas, cut in chunks
  • 6 ounces fresh blueberries
  • 6 ounces fresh raspberries

Instructions

For the American Flag Waffles

  • Preheat waffle iron with desired browning settings.
  • In large bowl, whisk together waffle mix, water, and vegetable oil until combined.
  • Pour about 1/3 of the batter into preheated waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Pour about 1/3 of the batter into preheated waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • On each of the 12 smaller square waffle segments, spoon whipped topping in the upper left corner and decorate with blueberries for the “stars”.
  • To make the stripes, spoon whipped topping along the second and fourth rows and top with banana chunks; arrange raspberries in the first and third rows.
  • Helpful hints:
    1. You can make this recipe using a round waffle iron in place of a square waffle iron; it will just change the final appearance.
    2. You can substitute strawberries for the raspberries in this recipe for the red stripes.
