Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Aluminum foil
  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 1.5 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 medium bell peppers (any color), thinly sliced
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 package hoagie rolls (6-count, 15 ounces)
  • 6 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 12 slices Provolone cheese

Instructions

Assembling the Chicken Philly Cheese Sandwich

  • Preheat oven to 350° F.
  • Add oil and butter to a large skillet over high heat. Add sliced chicken and season generously with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Add bell peppers, onions, crushed bouillon, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Continue cooking for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, and adjust heat to medium when necessary. Any liquid should be absorbed, and chicken and vegetables should begin to brown. Remove from heat.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise inside of each hoagie roll, place cheese on both sides, then fill the middle with chicken and vegetables. Wrap each sandwich separately in aluminum foil.
  • Arrange sandwiches on a baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes, until bread is warmed and cheese is melted.
