Homemade Biscuits

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Pastry cutter
  • Small bowl
  • 2-inch biscuit cutter (or use the rim of a large glass)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • cup whole milk

Instructions

Assembling the Biscuits

  • Preheat oven to 450°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, combine egg and milk. Add to flour mixture and stir.
  • Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently about 20 times.
  • Roll out to ¾-inch thickness and cut biscuits with a 2-inch biscuit cutter, making 10-11 biscuits.
  • Place on prepared baking sheet and bake in preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm.
