Easter Peeps Graham Cracker Houses

Items List:

Icing Glue:

  • 2 pounds powdered sugar (about 7 1/2 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 cup water

For each house:

  • 3 graham crackers
  • Hot glue gun or "icing glue" to hold the houses together

Decorative items:

  • Assorted candies, cereals, pretzels, crackers, cookies, frosting, sprinkles

Instructions:

Make your icing glue

  • In a glass bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Add egg whites and mix, adding water a little at a time until you reach a very thick consistency. Put icing in a zippered plastic bag and cut off the corner. This will allow you to squeeze out a line of icing for assembly and decorating.

Assembling the Houses

  • To build a graham cracker house, start with 3 graham crackers. Cut each one in half with a sharp knife to make six squares.
  • Cut one graham cracker square in half. Discard one half and cut the remaining piece into a triangle.
  • Using the icing glue (or a hot glue gun), assemble the three walls of the house using three of the squares of graham crackers.
  • Add the triangle piece to the top of the back wall of the house to create the roof.
  • Use the two remaining cracker squares to form the roof.
  • Allow graham cracker houses to dry and completely set up for 2-3 hours before decorating.

Decorating your houses

  • Try using frosted mini-wheat cereal to give that snow-kissed glow to your roof.
  • Use other cereals and candies to brighten up the houses.
  • Want to make a faux log cabin? Use pretzel rods to give that rustic charm.
