- Large mixing bowl
- Medium mixing bowl
- Cast iron skillet or other heavy skillet
- Funnel
- Plate lined with paper towels
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
For the funnel cakes
- In a large bowl, beat eggs. Add milk and sugar; mix well.
- In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and beat until smooth.
- In a cast iron or other heavy skillet, heat 1 inch of vegetable oil to 375 degrees.
- Pour about 1 cup batter through a funnel, making a circular and crisscross pattern to create a funnel cake.
- Fry funnel cake until it reaches a deep golden brown (about 1 minute). Then carefully flip it over and fry on the other side. Remove the funnel cake to drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
- Generously sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve hot.
- Makes about 5 (7-inch) funnel cakes.
