Biscuits and Chocolate Gravy

This recipe is such a fun, unique dessert! Creamy chocolate “gravy” tops flaky, buttery biscuits making a delicious sweet and salty combination.

  • Whisk
  • Medium-sized saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1 16.3 oz tube refrigerated biscuits (8-count)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Whipped topping and chocolate curls, optional

Instructions

Make the biscuits

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and place the biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle the biscuits with the 2 teaspoons sugar.
  • Bake according to the biscuit package instructions and remove to a wire rack.

For the Dessert

  • To make the gravy, whisk together the ¾ cup sugar, cocoa and flour in a medium-sized saucepan.
  • Whisk in the milk and place over a burner on medium heat.
  • Continue to cook and whisk until it begins to boil and thickens.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate chips, butter, vanilla and salt until smooth.
  • Serve the chocolate gravy over the biscuits with a dollop of whipped topping and chocolate curls, if desired.
