Sausage, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Braid

Equipment

  • 18" x 13" baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Skillet
  • Pizza cutter

Ingredients

  • 1 13.8-ounce tube refrigerated pizza dough
  • ½ pound ground breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup diced red bell pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

For the Breakfast braid

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line a 18" x 13" baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unroll the pizza dough onto the parchment paper and press into a 12x15-inch rectangle.
  • Sprinkle the cooked breakfast sausage down the center (the middle third) of the rectangle.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, black pepper and red pepper.
  • Pour egg mixture into a hot skillet, scrambling until cooked.
  • Sprinkle the eggs over the sausage.
  • Next, sprinkle the cheese over the eggs.
  • Use a pizza cutter to cut each side of the breakfast braid into 15, 1" strips.
  • Fold the strips of dough over the filling, alternating sides.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Brush with melted butter and serve warm.

    1. Try using different vegetables – onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc.
    2. Try different meat – cooked and crumbled bacon or ham, for example
