Layered Italian Spaghetti Casserole

  • 13" x 9" baking dish
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Aluminum foil

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced (approx. 1/3 cup)
  • 3 teaspoons parsley
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 3 8 oz cans tomato sauce
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 24 oz carton cottage cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Instructions

For the casserole

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a large skillet, brown and drain ground beef and onions.
  • Add parsley, oregano and tomato sauce; simmer 3-4 minutes.
  • Cook spaghetti according to package directions; drain.
  • Lightly spray a 13" x 9" casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray. Layer with half of each ingredient, starting with the spaghetti, then meat sauce, cottage cheese and mozzarella cheese.
  • Repeat layers. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over top. Cover with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Can be frozen and baked later. If frozen, allow 1 ½ hours to heat.
