- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- ½ cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cube beef bouillon, crushed (or 1 teaspoon powdered beef bouillon)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 1 small onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 2 packages brown gravy mix
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, bouillon, salt and pepper. Use your hands to mix well. Form the meat mixture into 8 large oval patties.
-
Add the butter and oil to a 12-inch skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Fry the patties on both sides until no longer pink in the middle, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from the skillet and pour off excess grease.
-
Reduce the heat to medium and add the sliced onions. Stir and sauté for about 5 minutes, until onions are golden brown and somewhat soft.
-
Add the remaining gravy ingredients, whisking continuously. Heat and stir until slightly thickened.
-
Return the cooked patties to the gravy. Spoon the gravy over the tops and let them simmer on low until heated back up.
-
Serve over mashed potatoes or noodles, if desired.
